Howdy all,
Today was a nice day at the Kiptopeke State Park (the location of the banding
station). There was a small push of Orioles and Kingbirds today along with a
few warblers. We managed to catch a few of each. We banded 31 birds today
making it a decent day for August. Looks like there might be a small front
coming later in the week so maybe there is a few more birds in the future.
There are today's totals.
Redstart 5
Yellowthroat 1
Ovenbird 3
Traill's Flycatcher 1
White-eyed Vireo 1
Red-eyed Vireo 3
Indigo Bunting 1
Blue Grosbeak 1
Eastern Kingbird 1
Carolina Wren 2
Baltimore Oriole 2
Cardinal 3
Hairy Woodpecker 1
Mockingbird 6
Today was the first captures of Baltimore Orioles for the season. The Hairy
Woodpecker was the third for the season making it the highest number ever
banded at Kiptopeke in one season. The trees are much taller now than 40 years
ago, bring in the Hairys.
Hope to see you all at the banding station!
Cheers,
Jethro Runco
