Howdy all,
Still about the same ol' story here at the banding station today. We did have
a few more birds and the cooler weather always feels nice, but still the
numbers are low. Today we banded a total of 19 birds, but a good mix of species
and most were migrants. We caught our first of the season MAGNOLIA WARBLER
today
which is always nice. Cute birds! Outside of that, the rest were expected
birds.
But the best bird of the morning came as we were opening nets. First a
CHUCK-WILL'S-WIDOW started singing about ten minutes til 6am, but then about
three
minutes later, a WHIP-POOR-WILL started up! Only the third time I have had
Whips here in the fall! Made my day right there!
Overall, not a bad day.
Here are the totals for 8/28:
American Redstart 5
Black-and-white Warbler 3
Magnolia Warbler 1
Ovenbird 1
Northern Waterthrush 1
Red-eyed Vireo 1
Traill's Flycatcher 3
Veery 1
Carolina Wren 1
Northern Cardinal 1
Northern Mockingbird 1
TOTAL ------------------------ 19
Can't really say how the rest of the week is going to be, but it looks as if
the temperature is going to be better this week. I like that!
Cheers,
Jethro Runco
