Howdy all,
Today turned out to be the best day of the season so far. We ended the day
with a total of 99 birds. There were quite a few nice birds caught today and
nice to finally see the season's first really good push of birds. Some of the
highlight birds banded today include CANADA, BLUE-WINGED, MOURNING, and
WILSON'S
WARBLERS. We also caught our first MAGNOLIA WARBLER of the season. Another
bird of interest was the capture of a CEDAR WAXWING which is a bird we don't
catch every year. And of course the 12 species of warblers was impressive.
Here is the list for the day 9/2:
American Redstart 31
Magnolia Warbler 1
Prairie Warbler 1
Wilson's Warbler 1
Common Yellowthroat 8
Black-and-white Warbler 12
Blue-winged Warbler 2
Black-throated Blue Warbler 2
Canada Warbler 1
Northern Waterthrush 5
Mourning Warbler 1
Ovenbird 2
Traill's Flycatcher 9
Field Sparrow 4
Blue Grosbeak 1
Baltimore Oriole 2
White-eyed Vireo 1
Red-eyed Vireo 6
Veery 5
Carolina Wren 1
Cedar Waxwing 1
Eastern Kingbird 1
Northern Mockingbird 1
TOTAL --------------------------------- 99
If the wind stays out of the north through the night, tomorrow could be
another good day for banding. I am afraid, however, that the wind is going to
be
stronger tomorrow causing problems at the station. If it IS windy, we will have
to close those nets that are blowing, and those nets that are exposed are our
best nets! So I guess we will see. The temperatures look good. I am excited!
I sure hope to see some of you this extended weekend. Remember that early in
the morning is the best! Looks like good weather for birding. Sure hope the
birds are here!
See you at the banding station!!
Cheers,
Jethro Runco
