Howdy all,
The last two days have been a bit of a slow down here at the banding
station. We banded 84 yesterday and 49 today (10/4). Most of the birds were of
expected species, but we did catch two more BLACKPOLL WARBLERS today (one
weighing
11.3 grams, the other 20.0 grams). I would have to say that the best bird of
the two days came today when we banded a ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK. A common
migrant through the area, just one we don't catch many of. In fact, this was
the first one to be banded here since the 2004 season! Ironically, during the
2004 season, 6 were banded (the fifteen year high year), the last one banded
that season was on 10/4! Kind of weird. So it was nice to see one banded this
season. Been a long time.
I would assume the next few days are going to be great weather to get out,
but I am afraid the overall bird numbers are going to continue to decline
until the next cold front.
Here are the totals.
