Howdy all,
The last few days have been interesting to say the least. After coming off
the big day on the 14th, it has all be down hill (and quickly) due to the
weather. Nothing really earth shattering, but we did catch a BLUE-HEADED VIREO
which always makes me smile. Pretty much everything else was expected. Lots of
winter birds. Guess it bound to happen! Today was a bit better. Banded 118
but that was because we had an 86 bird net run. Then it died.
Anyway, we also caught our fifth NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWL of the season this
morning. This one was also banded already, and once again, this one was banded
by the saw-whet banding effort that is going on here on the south tip. Still
cool!
Totals for 11/15:
Chipping Sparrow 1
Yellow-rumped Warbler 1
Blue-headed Vireo 1
Hermit Thrush 1
Gray Catbird 1
TOTAL----------------------------- 5 closed early because of
rain and wind
11/16:
A blow out! Didn't band.
11/17:
Slate-colored Junco 2
Field Sparrow 4
Song Sparrow 3
Swamp Sparrow 1
Savannah Sparrow 1
White-throated Sparrow 6
Yellow-rumped Warbler 77
House Wren 1
Hermit Thrush 5
American Goldfinch 17
Sharp-shinned Hawk 1
TOTAL----------------------------------- 118
So all in all, the days we have been able to band recently have treated us
ok. Hopefully the bad weather can hold off a few more days and we can finish
out the season with good weather. Lots of AMERICAN GOLDFINCHES and ROBINS
around right now. Hopefully we can catch a few more before we end. Still
wondering were all the sparrows are. Been a slower year for them here so far.
Maybe
they are just late like everything else seems to be.
Cheers,
