The Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy Blue Ridge Center for Environmental Studies
Monthly Bird Walk was attend by 7 windproof birders and was led by Del and
myself. Birds, unfortunately were few and far in between. As a group we
managed to tally 27 species with some weird misses including Blue Jay,
Northern Flicker, Brown Creeper and hoped for Winter Wren. Golden-crowned
Kinglets, Dark-eyed Juncos and Field Sparrows were numerous and at times
could be seen nicely. Song Sparrows and Carolina Chickadees were seen
foraging in the weeds and a Eastern Towhee was heard calling in the
distance. Far away a lone Raven called once and moved on.
One of the more intriguing sightings was a rainbow colored and shaped prism
in the fast moving clouds. It was very bright and was seen well by all.
Happy birding,
