Two lark sparrows were seen yesterday in Cape Charles, during the CBC. The
first was found by Nick Flanders in a part of the gated community of Bay
Creek that is not open to the public. A couple of hours later and a mile or
so away Colin and Stephanie McAllister found another bird within sight of
the main rail yard, next to the barricaded gate to T&W Block on Bayshore
Road. In both instances the bird was in company with a fairly large flock of
chipping sparrows. Ned Brinkley got good photos of the first bird and was
looking for the second one the last time we spoke. Other rarities in this
sector of the count circle included a ruby-throated hummingbird, an Osprey
and a possible barred owl. We dipped on purple sandpipers for the first time
in many years.
