This morning a Swainson's Thrush hit my window. My attempts to resuscitate him
weren't successful, but they usually are. I simply put the stunned bird in a
brown paper bag, bring it inside, put it in a warm (not hot) place, and let
nature take it's course. It works way over half the time. It worked the day
before with a Common Yellowthroat and has worked with the many robins and
waxwings that visit our hollies and pyracanthas. The robins invaded the berry
trees and bushes in force this morning and the Swainson's Thrush could have
been part of that large feeding flock. The Gold Book lists the late date for
the coastal plain for Swainson's Thrush as October 22, so the individual today
was indeed late.
