The Northern Virginia Bird Club held its mid-week walk at the Laurel Hill
Equestrian Center in Lorton this morning. Cool and breezy conditions kept
birds hunkered down for the most part, and we totaled 34 species. We saw 4
finches (goldfinch, house finch, purple finch, and pine siskin) and 7 sparrows
(chipping, field, song, swamp, white-throated, white-crowned, and eastern
towhee). A nice find was 2 red-breasted nuthatches in some small pines.
