Some good migrants at Leesylvania this morning. The highlight was
golden-winged warbler, as noted by Kurt, seen at the car top boat launch area
near Bushey Pt. Other warblers were northern parula, Nashville,
chestnut-sided, magnolia, Cape May, black-throated green, blackburnian,
yellow-throated, bay-breasted, black and white, American redstart, common
yellowthroat, and Wilson’s. In talking to some of the many other birders in
the park this morning I know of at least 6 other warbler species seen, making
it 20 for the park. Other notables I saw include peregrine, red-headed
woodpecker, gray-cheeked thrush, wood thrush, yellow-billed cuckoo, acadian
flycatcher, summer tanager, and rose-breasted grosbeak. Hot spots were the
battery at Freestone Pt., the hillside below the ruins (not until the sun came
out from behind the clouds), and the small picnic area near the parking lot of
the car top boat launch area at Bushey Pt.
