VA BIRDers,
Marc Ribaudo and I birded Leesylvania SP today starting at the Lee ruins,
then the road, then the car top boat launch area and then the Beaver pond.
Activity was slow at first but got extremely busy perhaps an hour after
sunrise. We missed many birds. Today's highlight was at least 2
Yellow-bellied Flycatchers. There could have been 4, as we saw 2 at the Lee
ruins and 2 near the car top boat launch area about an hour later.
Migration was dominated by Yellow-billed Cuckoos, Chimney Swfits, E. Wood
Pewees, Red-eyed Vireos, American Robin, American Redstarts, Common
Yellowthroats (this species not breed at the park), Brown-headed Cowbirds
and Common Grackles. Statistics on species of general interest follow.
