All,
Birded around the county a bit this morning with Greg Moyers. Highlight of the
day was a Lesser Yellowlegs on ice at the pond on Fort Lynne road NW Rockingham
County. We were able to get a few id worthy photos. According to the Yellow
Book there are two Winter records for the Mountains and Valleys region, one
for Clark County and the other listed as Northern Shenandoah Valley. Typical
Spring migration is from April 10th through May 25.
Lake Shenandoah was still hosting at least 3 Red-necked Grebes and a slew of
Ring-necked Ducks both Hooded and Red-breasted Mergansers. Greg had a Common
Goldeneye before I arrived.
Two Wood Ducks graced the temporary pond across from Green Valley Books.
