Hello all
Since March 1st is the start of spring bird wise . I went out to check on
the ponds in Augusta County for spring records . I know that we have
lingering winter waterfowl so I set out to see what was out there . Some of
the ponds were partly frozen so it made for a better count for all were in
confined open water . Below is a list of what was seen today thru out
Augusta County .
Snow Goose -- 1
Canada Goose -- 651+
Trumpeter Swan -- 4 second spring record & spring peak count . I
thought these birds had already gone . Private lake Stuarts Draft area
Wood Duck -- 2
Gadwall -- 132 spring peak count -- 107 of them were on McCune's pond
Am . Wigeon -- 2
AM . Black Duck -- 2
Mallard -- 50 +
No. Shoveler -- 18 -- spring peak count
No. Pintail -- 1
Green -winged Teal -- 7
Canvasback --26 -- spring peak count
Redhead -- 37 spring peak count
Ring - necked Duck -- 47
Greater Scaup -- 12
Lesser Scaup --- 13
White - winged Scoter -- 1 third spring record Airport pond Waynesboro
Bufflehead -- 7
Hooded Merganser -- 12
Ruddy Duck -- 5
Pied - billed Grebe -- 2
Red - necked Grebe -- 2 spring peak count one at McCune's & one at Quarry

Clay - colored Sparrow -- 1 second spring record -- Days Inn off of Bells
