9 August
Made my first visit of the season to the nocturnal Common Nighthawk
feeding area at the intersection of Gallows Rd and Boone Blvd at Tyson's
Corner, Fairfax Co.. At first there were only bats flying around in the
lights, but eventually one nighhawk appeared over the buildings. Then a
little bit later another two came in high over the area. Didn't hear them
calling.
I was there from 9:10 PM to 9:25 PM and the lights were on. Hard to
tell what the schedule will be this year, but if the lights are off you can
always check Fairfax Square for the birds.
