I drove to Lake Drummond and back this morning via the Railroad Ditch
entrance. Bird of the day was my first Lincoln's Sparrow among a flock of the
expected sparrows that were using the segment of Interior Ditch burned during
the fire a year and a half ago. I was struck by the unique appearance of this
bird, and the subdued colors of its plumage looked great at close range.
Other notables included a White-eyed Vireo vocalizing from the West Ditch
Boardwalk Trail and a flock of 20 Rusty Blackbirds feeding on berries along
with Grackles, Red-wingeds, and Robins just off of Railroad Ditch. The Tundra
Swan number on the Lake was up to 85. Take care,
Nick Flanders.
