Laura Weidner just called me to let me know that she just saw a LOGGERHEAD
SHRIKE on rte 15 about 7 miles south of Leesburg (& 2 miles south of Oatlands
Plantation) on Little River Farm in Loudoun County. When Laura first saw the
bird, it was on a wire next to the hwy but when she turned around to get a
better look it had vanished from sight. However, after a couple of minutes it
flew up on the white fence near the hwy giving her great looks at it. If you
go looking for this bird pls note that it on private property and that traffic,
esp. truck traffic, is very heavy on rte 15.
Incidentally this is the same farm that Kurt Gaskill found a LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE
on during the Central Loudoun CBC on Dec. 28, 2006 and then relocated about a
month later. He also found a LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE about a mile away during the
2005 Central Loudoun CBC.
This year's Central Loudoun CBC is again scheduled for Dec. 28, (a Friday this
year), and everyone is welcome. If you are int'd pls contact me at
joecoleman@xxxxxxx or 540-554-2542.
Good birding,
