Fourteen birders with the Northern Virginia Bird Club enjoyed a walk at
Long Branch Nature Center this morning. Highlights included:
- Red bellied woodpeckers visiting nest holes . In one a chick stuck his
head out calling for food whenever the adults were away
- An Acadian flycatcher and a Carolina wren posing to help the newer birders
- Both oriole species near Sparrow Pond and the nearby trees across the
creek
- A northern water snake sunning himself on the creek bed rocks
