I walked for an hour on Percival's Island on Thursday and while not the
best time of day; 1:30-2:30 pm, I still enjoyed the birding. There were
four Double-crested Cormorants; two in the water from the bridge viewing
platform along with a flying male Kingfisher; and two on the railroad side of
the island that I flushed from a log in the river while on a bike/hike path.
Also on that path there was a male Red-Bellied Woodpecker excavating what
looked to be a nest hole; lots of Robins and Grackles; a courting pair of
Tufted Titmice, tail wagging and wing fluttering, who were not at all
interested in me, allowing me to be within 8 feet of them as they flitted from
branch to branch. And I watched and heard two first of the season House Wrens.
