VA Birders,
I finally went and saw the MS Kites in the Springfield/King's Park area of
Fairfax Co. today. Another birder, David Hedwith, arrived just after I did,
and while we were looking for the kites, Bob Augustine, who has been keeping
track of them, came by and found them for us. I think a total of 3, all
adults, were seen. Sadly, any chicks that were in the 2 nests apparently were
casualties of last Sunday's violent storm, Bob told us, and the parents have
not been seen at the nest since then. Altho at least 3 kites were still in the
area today, it is anybody's guess how much longer they will stay, so anyone who
wants to see them should try to go as soon as possible.
