The mud flats at Staunton River State Park have doubled in size since last
weekend, and a few more good birds have arrived. Today there were 2
juvenile WHITE IBIS, 2 juvenile Yellow-crowned Night-Herons, 3 juvenile
Little-blue Herons and 1 adult Forster's Tern. A few shorebirds have
arrived including Least Sandpiper, Semipalmated Sandpiper and Pectoral
Sandpiper. There were likely others that we missed due to the extreme
distance to most of the shorebirds.
The other interesting sighting was a large flock of juvenile Barn Swallows
feeding over the mud and perching on small shrubs.
Also of note was a juvenile Red-headed Woodpecker, female Summer Tanager,
and male Scarlet Tanager. Complete list below.
