I got a tip this morning that there was a large shorebird present at
Stuanton River State Park. Fenton Day had found the bird late Friday
evening, but due to distance and waning light was unable to make a positive
id. When the weather finally broke this afternoon, I decided to make a
quick run down to the park to check it out. I found the Marbled Godwit
right away associating with a large group of immature White Ibis. After
watching the Godwit for several minutes, I started to scan around and
realized that there were a lot of White Ibis present. I counted 44, but
many of the birds were moving in and out of some large lilly pads, so there
could well have been more. Great Egrets were numerous as well, but I was
unable to find the lone Little Blue Heron that was present last weekend.
Other shorebirds included Lesser Yellowlegs, Pectoral, Solitary, Spotted,
peep sp., Semipalmated Plover, and Killdeer.
