All,
Late yesterday afternoon, at Hughlett Point Natural Area Preserve in lower
Northumberland County (end of Rt 605, Ball's Neck Road, about eight miles from
Kilmarnock), my wife and I came across two MARBLED GODWITS in the central
lagoon, feeding along with some greater yellowlegs, short-billed dowagers,
black-bellied plovers and many semi-palmated plovers and killdeer. Also seen
were Forster's and least terns, bald eagle, laughing and herring gull, indigo
bunting and a family group of red-headed woodpeckers where the entrance trail
reaches the beach.
