The Prince William Conservation Alliance held its last-Sunday-of-the-Month
birdwalk at Merimac Farm Wildlife Management Area in Nokesville today with 6
birders sighting 25 species. Our highlights included an Indigo Bunting
gleaning seeds from grass seed heads, and a Barred Owl. The Owl was crouched
about 5 feet off the ground in the crotch of a maple tree near the large barn .
It blended into the bark of the tree making it hard to spot. He was initially
seen by a first time birder with no optics. It is our hope that this
experience will encourage our new friend to take part in more walks.
