While working on a class project along Thomas Woods Trail (paved) I was
surprised to find a Merlin perched in a bare snag over a clear-cut right along
the road near its intersection with Blackwater Rd., this was around 8:30 am. A
brief period of sun on this dreary morning also brought out a few warblers
nearby: Magnolia (1), Am. Redstart (3), Black-throated Blue (1),
Black-and-white (3), Pine (6), Northern Parula (3), and Common Yellowthroat
