The dreary weather and snow helped produce some interesting birds today at
Blandy Experimental Farm (Clarke County). At about 4 pm I saw two Merlins
hunting from trees on Berry's Ferry Road along Blandy's south border. I
have a passable photo of one:

There also was a pair of Canvasback (male and female) on Lake Arnold in the
Arboretum. A Wilson's Snipe, about 6 Rusty Blackbirds, and a bunch of
robins and red-wings were working the shore of the lake. Along the gravel
roads I saw about 10 Savannah Sparrows among the Songs, White-throats, and
Juncos. A small flock of 6 American Pipits were hanging out on the paved
entrance road.
