As has been reported here in the past, the Prince William Conservation Alliance
conducts a nature walk at the Merrimac Farm WMA in Nokesville on the last
Sunday of each month. The focus is on birds, but we draw wild flower fans,
insect groupies, and photographers of all interests. There were only two of us
this morning, which is a shame because it was a delightful walk. There was an
abundance of Eastern Bluebirds, Eastern Phoebes, Northern Chats, Prairie
Warblers, and white-eyed Vireos. The call of at least one Northern Bobwhite
was perhaps the highlight, although I was taken with some of the best views I
have ever had of Prairie Warblers. The Prince William Conservation Alliance
invites all to these monthly walks which begin at 8AM. While I have never been
asked to produce it, Virginia Wildlife Management Areas are subject to the DGIF
Access Pass obtainable on the DGIF website.
