Howdy all,
A day without rain!! Wow! It's amazing what a dry day can do for a banding
station! We had a very good day today which seems weird because the bird
activity seemed a little low today. The morning started off great but slowed
rather quickly. On our 7:20 net run we netted 26 birds! It was another good day
for migrant as well, with many of them quite fat. We ended the day with a total
of 65 birds. A great total for this time of year. Some of the highlights
include 4 Yellow Warblers, a Canada Warbler, a Chestnut-sided Warbler, and a
Veery!!! I know there will be slow days in the future but I just wish everyday
in August could be like today!
Totals for 8/17:
Warblers:
Prairie 4
Redstart 10
Yellow 4
Canada 1
Chestnut-sided 1
Black & white 3
N. Waterthrush 1
Worm-eating 2
Y-B Chat 3 That's 9 species of warblers!
Others:
B-G Gnatcatcher 2
Traill's Flycatcher 1
Field Sparrow 5
Grasshopper Sparrow 5
Indigo Bunting 3
C. Wren 3
Veery 1
N. Cardinal 9
N. Mockingbird 7
Also it was a great day to see old friends too! Bob Loomis, Jerri Howe, Nan
LaRue, and Don Schwab all stopped by the station to help out! It was great to
see all of them again!!
I wonder what's in store for tomorrow!?
Cheers,
Jethro Runco
