Hello,
I went to Mill Creek Lake yesterday 8-18-08 and today 8-19-08
afternoon around 6:00 PM. Between the 2 days I've had:
Lesser Yellowlegs, Solitary Sandpiper, Spotted Sandpiper,
Great Egret, and for the past 2 days I've seen 1 Stilt Sandpiper. If
you look on page 190 of "The Sibley Guide to Birds" the bird looks
exactly like the Juv. photo. The bird stands out in the deep water
and sticks its bill in the water like a sewing machine and sticks it
rear high in the air.
I've tried to get photos but they come out blurry. If anyone wants
see the bird take 60 west at the Amherst traffic circle for 6 miles
and turn right on 778 and go 2.8 miles to the bridge where the
creek goes into the lake. There isn't much parking at the bridge.
When you walk to the center of the bridge be careful of the traffic
going by. Go past the 1st bridge. There are plenty of mud flats to
check for sandpipers.
