Colleagues,
Last evening, at approximately 5:30, a Mississippi Kite was seen at the
western base of the Godwin Bridge (Hwy 17) across the Nansemond River. this
is a couple hundred yards from a sighting on May 5. The bird was
soaring/kiting.
Back to the hummingbird: This past winter, I posted experience with the
first (since we've lived here, ie, 1993) overwintering hummingbird in our
yard. The hummer was an immature male, either Black-chinned or
Ruby-throated. I did not see the bird in March; I was out of the country
most of that month. By April, considering any sighting that of the
over-wintering bird was not tenable. Thus, I cannot say which species was
the over-wintering bird.
More birds!
