I went out this morning to Kings Park (intersection of Thames and Victoria)
where I had seen kites last year but no luck. Then I went to the Kings Park
shopping center and scanned but did not see anything but then glimpsed
something like a kite near the Braddock and Rolling roads intersection. I
parked in the office park just SW of the intersection and could see two
kites working the area slightly north of Braddock Road. I drove into the
Red Fox Forest Park subdivision and went to an open area but had no luck. I
returned to the office park and continued to see the kites. I got a better
fix on their location and ended up going back in on red fox drive (a few
hundred feet NW of the braddock and rolling intersection). I went in a bit,
parked, and noticed what might have been a kite. I turned around and went
left (east) on Orange Hunt Lane and went down the hill about one hundred
feet. Looking back up the hill I could see a kite in the top of a tree on
some dead branches.
I can't recall if the adult arrived first to be followed by the juvenile.
At one point the adult fed the juvenile. I'd say I saw most of the activity
from 10:00 to 11:30 AM after having spotted he kites. I think they were
probably active when I was in the other locations. Here are some photos
from this morning:
