A friend and I drove out to Valley View Park in Prince William County today to
check on Mississippi kites. This is the same location where 6 to 8 kites were
seen at the same time, by myself and several other people, around this date
last year.
Today we saw three Mississippi kites, two adults one with wing molt in both
wings, and a third bird, plumage undetermined due to bad lighting.
We watched the two adults for about two hours, from about 10 until noon.
They were flying, soaring, hunting, and diving, mostly over the wooded area at
the very end of the parking lot; all very enjoyable to watch. There are also
numerous vultures, of both species, and a flyby adult Bald eagle.
