Hi all,
I have written before about my very smart and trusting mockingbird family. We
call them all Figaro, Fig for short. The babies are Figlets.
To the great dismay of all the yard birds a crow has been hanging around.
Figaro, the jays, starlings and even the grackles come in to mob it.
Every morning I open the back door and Figaro is there waiting for me to give
him a snack. But today Fig was very agitated, screeching and hissing at me,
jumping from rail to rail. I looked down and there was a dead mouse on the back
step. Apparently it fell off the phone wire, while being chased. I looked up,
and the crow was on the roof, surrounded by the mobbers, looking down at the
mouse. Breakfast. I waited awhile for the crow to take the mouse but eventually
disposed of it. The crow was last seen heading west with the gang following and
peace was restored to the hamlet.
Figaro alerted me to the dead mouse to help him get rid of the crow. That's my
Figaro!

"...Shoot all the blue jays you want, if you can hit' em, but remember it's a
sin to kill a mockingbird. ...Mockingbirds don't do one thing but make music
for us to enjoy. They don't eat up people's gardens, don't nest in corncribs,
they don't do one thing but sing their hearts out for us. That's why it's a sin
to kill a mockingbird."
