Hi Everyone,
Good numbers of both birds and birders this morning at Monticello Park in
Alexandria. After spending the first part of the morning at Rock Creek Park in
DC, I arrived at Monticello by 9:45 and stayed through 1:00. 15 species of
warblers were encountered:
Northern Parula (3-4)
Chestnut-sided (1 male seen very well)
Magnolia (4-5, very cooperative)
CAPE MAY (good study of 1 female, 1 male high in the canopy, others singing)
Black-throated Blue (most numerous warb of the day -- conservatively 10-12?)
Black-throated Green (oddly only 1 singing; by far the most numerous warb I
encountered this morning in DC...)
BLACKBURNIAN (1 male, 1 female)
BAY-BREASTED (heard only)
Black-and-White (2-3)
Blackpoll (2)
Ovenbird (2)
Redstart (8-10)
Yellowthroat (2-3)
WILSON'S (3+? One walk up the length of the creek produced 3 of these little
beauties! I believe I had 6 extended looks at this bird throughout the morning
all at low level. Never have I ever in VA... I almost felt like I was out west
:))
CANADA (2-3, great looks at male and and female)
Other birds of interest included: Gray-cheeked Thrush (FOY) and Veery. There
were also several other species of warbler in the park this AM seen by others.
I hope to be back tomorrow.
Happy migration,
