I went over to West Springfield this afternoon for about an hour (5:10 to
6:10) to look for the kites. I did not see or hear any evidence of either
adult or the juvenile birds. They could have left for southward migration.
It is about time for that to happen. There is major migration of
Mississippi kites now underway.
Yesterday, Vera Cruz, Mexico hawkwatch reported 17,277 migrating
Mississippi kites. The season total for that species at that hawkwatch is,
as of yesterday, 87,571.
If you go to Springfield looking for the kites please post, or send me an
E-mail, as to whether or not you see them and the date you to look for them.
Thanks.
