3 waterproof birders joined Larry and myself for a wet Northern Virginia
Birding Club field trip to Banshee Reeks (aka Banshee Reeks Nature Preserve
- MFF08 in eBird hotspot terms). Initially the rain wasn't too bad but as
time went by, the rain got worse. It got colder too. At some point during
the trip I could see my own breath. Brrrr. I had the feeling I was back in
Holland and birding in the rain. Highlights of the trip included a late
Blue-headed Vireo (juv), Swamp Sparrows, and a few White-crowned Sparrows.
Other winter guests such Yellow-rumped Warbler, Ruby-crowned Kinglet and
White-throated Sparrows were seen as well. Plenty of Northern Flickers were
around. We totaled 32 species give or take a few.
