On the way to the Goochland Farmers Market this morning, I birded Tuckers Park
and the adjacent Maidens Loop road. There was a partially albino/leucistic
(not sure of the correct term, I know it has been debated before) male Cardinal
with a white body, red wings, tail, crest and bill. Eyes were dark.
Tucker's Park is a Goochland County park under development. It is located on
the southern section of Maidens Loop Road (Route 710) off route 522 just off
the south side of route 6 in Goochland. The park is accessible on foot and
overlooks the river. The Maidens Loop Road which dead ends at the railroad
tracks is also good habitat with a lot of overgrown shrub habitat, this is
where I found the cardinal along with some winter arrivals.
