Ten birders came out for a combination bird walk/ Bluebird trail monitoring at
Clark's Crossing in Vienna along the W&OD trail. Inside the boxes (houses) we
saw a good number of baby Eastern Bluebirds and Tree Swallows. Three boxes had
Bluebird eggs and only one had House Wren eggs. Only one box was empty out of
the eleven on the trail. It was fun to watch a mother Bluebird happily eat
some mealworms that I put on the roof of her box. Other highlights included
both Baltimore and Orchard Orioles, Indigo Buntings, Red-shouldered Hawks, a
calling Yellow-billed Cuckoo, some Common Yellowthroats, and a White-eyed
Vireo. We tallied 40 species in all.
