Just back from birding the NRV.  Highlights included:

1 Spotted Sandpiper - just below the 2nd pull off along the New River at
Parrot   I understand there are very few winter records for these.
Eurasian Collared Doves near Belspring
1 Common Loon at Claytor Lake
1,200 (aprox) Ring-Billed Gulls at Claytor Lake
1 very large dark juv, gull at Claytor Lake   I am assuming this is a juv.
Herring.  It was 40-50% longer than the Ring Bills... which seems to
indicate to me a Greater - Black backed - but I don't think they are to be
expected here?  Any insights?
