I made a short visit?to Newport News Park during lunch today.? It was cooler
and overcast, and the birds were very active.? Highlights included a
concentration of 62 wood ducks in the upper end of the reservoir.? I also had a
very nice look (within 15') at a yellow-breasted chat...the first I've seen at
this location.? At the pond nearest the golf course, I spotted two Baltimore
orioles.? On the reservoir side at that location was a black-and-white
warbler.? There were also large numbers of great crested flycatchers,
yellow-rumped warblers and blue-gray gnatcatchers.
