We spent the weekend with BJ's son & wife, just north of Piney River.
Saturday evening (8/25), we watched at least 13 COMMON NIGHTHAWKS hunting over
a nearby field. There were also some swallows, but only a single Tree Swallow
among them. We've seen very few Tree Swallows since early summer and we
continue to wonder why.?
The other treat was watching a good number of RT HUMMINGBIRDs all weekend in
the yard. While watching them expend so much energy as they constantly chase,
fight, and defend feeding territory, it's hard to fathom how they can eat
enough to keep it up all day - but they surely do! In spite of being puzzled
though, it's still fun to watch.
