This is a non-report: the Rufous hummingbird was not seen in the Ripley
garden between 12:10 and 1:00 p.m. I was there 50 minutes; two other
birders watched for about half an hour, then left to try a few other spots.
Janet, the horticulturist, has been working in that area, removing dried
plant material. However, she reported seeing the Rufous most of yesterday,
and she also saw the Ovenbird yesterday. I blame myself; it's the Curse of
the Camera again.<g>
I am currently keeping a sightings log for the Records Committee: if you
have a non-sighting (or a sighting!) to report, particularly in the next
few days, please let me know. The committee would like to get an accurate
"last sighting" date, and it helps to know if the Rufous isn't being
reported because no one has been looking, or because she may have actually
moved on (although I'm sure we all hope she'll stick around a while
longer!).
