VA BIRDers,
Russ Taylor, Jan Frye and myself did the Manassas Airport and Landfill
Sector for the Nokesville CBC. Top species was a No. Saw-whet Owl in Prince
William Forest Park. Other great finds were the count's only Hooded
Mergansers, Wild Turkey, a Merlin, Lesser Black-backed Gull, Barn Owl at the
airport plus the other 3 common owls elsewhere, Red-headed WP, Horned Larks,
American Pipit, Am. Tree Sparrow, and Savannah and Fox Sparrows. A tough
day due to the early morning fog (and icy roadways) and I would not call the
birds very numerous. Yet, it was a fun day; we tallied 68 species.
