I know this forum is for birds in VA but just a brief comment on the
Lapwing for folks who enjoy photographing birds as much as viewing them.
My wife and I drove three hours one way to try to get a shot of this
unexpected visitor. Please be aware that even with a 500mm lens and a
teleconverter it is almost impossible to get a good picture. The lapwing
is located near a pond in a large farm field at a church in a rural area of
NC. It can be seen with a good scope and there are many photo ops of old
barns, houses, horses, hawks, kestrels, etc. on all the back roads leading
to the church so the seven hour drive wasn't a total bust.
