Perhaps because of the early morning thunderstorms, only two people showed
up for the NVBC Dyke Marsh walk this morning. It was slow and humid, but we
did get a few good birds. A Least Bittern vocalized from the Spatterdock
near the Overlook path that permits viewing of the Little Gut from the Haul
Road peninsula. We found an Eastern Kingbird on nest along the boardwalk and
recently fledged Northern Rough-winged Swallows begging for food from
parents at "Dead Beaver Beach." A Warbling Vireo pair was briefly observed
where we heard the Least Bittern as well as an Orchard Oriole collecting
food for youngsters.
