VA BIRDers,
A quick 2 hrs at Occ. Bay NWR, starting at 0830. I walked mostly east using
the Charlie Rd route to the river and then back to the parking lot (see:
http://www.mobilemaplets.com/contribute/mapgps/2930 ;). Highlight was a
American Tree Sparrow in the tall fine grassy area east of the parking lot.
Also, 2 Fox and 6 Savannahs plus the usual sparrows and 2 Winter Wrens. In
the area near the along Delta Rd was an E. Phoebe. I also encountered
Sharpie and Coops on the way.
I tried Roach's Run again along the GW Parkway (City of Alexandria) and
finally found my month's Black-crowned Night-Heron - a difficult to find &
very uncommon species in No. VA, esp. in winter months.
Later that afternoon I tallied a HY male Rufous Hummer coming to an
Arlington feeder. I understand it is in the DC CBC circle, so we are all
hoping it sticks around.
