Hi VA-Birders,
Friday morning we had fantastic birding at Occoneechee State Park, just
outside of Clarksville. Migration was still in full swing, and we had great
views of the 39 species listed below.
Highlights included a group of 5 Red-headed Woodpeckers that was constantly
in motion and vocalizing during the 90 minutes we spent in one 100-foot area
trying to see all the birds. We had 6 species of woodpecker in that spot and
all 3 species of nuthatch. We got close-up views of several warbler species,
Yellow-billed Cuckoo, Baltimore Oriole, and Rose-breasted Grosbeak.
We had not been to this park in several years so we were very happy to see
it's still a terrific birding hot spot.
