I spent a few hours at Occoquan Bay this morning. Sparrows, as expected,
were plentiful. I tallied eight species of sparrows highlighted by about a
dozen juvenile and three adult white crowns spread across three different
locations. Also notable were three Lincoln's sparrows.
Plenty of yellow palm warblers, as well as a few western palms, are still
hanging around. Thrashers are also still around in good numbers-saw three
and heard three others. Biggest surprise was a yellow-breasted chat goofin'
with some yellow rumps along Charlie Road.
And, of course, Occoquan Bay this time of year is simply beautiful. What a
morning.
