The spring migration banding station at Occoquan Bay NWR is up and running.
Weather permitting, we will be open Wed, Fri, Sat and Sun. until about noon.
Visitors are welcome. So far things have been relatively quiet - mostly
sparrows: Song, White-throated, and Swamp. We have also caught a couple of
Towhees, a very handsome male bluebird, assorted Woodpeckers, Carolina
Wrens, Chickadees, and a very cheeky Phoebe who had been brazenly sitting on
our net tie backs, but finally outsmarted himself. In the early morning
when we open up we hear turkeys gobbling near the station, and Woodcocks
peenting in the meadows.

The banding station is on Deep Hole Point Road, near the mouth of Marumsco
Creek.
