On Monday, while bike-commuting, I saw a medium-sized white bird (perhaps
the size of a catbird) flying across the Mount Vernon Parkway about 100
yards south of the Stone Bridge over Hunting Creek. It had a long,
odd-looking tail (graduated?), flew a bit like a finch (punctuated bursts of
flapping, but much less bouncy than a goldfinch), and gave a two-noted call
I'm not familiar with. I'm stumped. My best guess is an escapee white
budgie. Keep an eye out at Dyke Marsh. Also saw a CASPIAN TERN
plunge-diving near the bridge.
