Early Sunday morning I left my home in Concord for a day of birding around
the area. As I was going to my car, I heard a pair of great horned owls
talking to each other in woods beyond my house. After I left and about 5
minutes from my house, I spotted a barred owl sitting in a small tree along
the road. While pulled off the road enjoying the close-up view of this owl
, another one came out of the woods, flew across the road and up a
forested hill. Shortly thereafter the owl I was watching flew after it. A
nesting pair maybe?
Meadow larks were everywhere singing in the fields. Robins still in
large numbers and bluebirds were seen all along my route as were grackles
and red winged blackbirds. Four red tailed hawks were spotted sitting in
trees. Killdeer were in several fields and on Red House Road, around the
pond along that road many horned larks were observed, some of them on the
verge of the road.
